The International Boxing Federation’s fifth-ranked featherweight Tomoki Kameda of TMK GYM, unleashing a barrage of unanswered blows to the head and body, forced World Boxing Council’s youth silver super bantamweight champion Kevin Villanueva of Mexico into submission at the end of the fifth round on March 31 in Nagoya.

  The scheduled 10-rounder held as the chief supporting card for the WBC minimumweight title fight at Nagoya Congress Center as part of ‘’3150FIGHT vol.8’’ ended at the end of the round as the 23-year-old Villanueva refused to answer the bell for the sixth round due apparently to the accumulated damage he incurred in the fight. There were no knockdowns in the fight.

  Kameda, whose planned rematch with second-ranked Lerato Dlamini of South Africa was cancelled in mid-March and Villanueva was chosen at the last minute, said after the fight, ‘’I am looking forward to having a world title challenge by all means this year. Though my active fighting style has not yet been completed, I think I was able to show the kind of new aspect of me.’’

  With the win, the 32-year-old Kameda improved his record to 41 wins, including 23 KOs, against four losses. Villanueva, 23, fell to a 22-5-3 win-loss-draw tally with 15 KOs.
