Subaru Murata Transfers from Teiken Gym to KOBE Hasegawa Gym; Former WBO-AP Champion

Former WBO Asia Pacific super-bantamweight champion Subaru Murata (29) recently announced on his Instagram that he has transferred from Teiken Gym to KOBE Hasegawa Gym. As is well known, KOBE Hasegawa Gym is headed by former three-division world champion Hozumi Hasegawa.

Murata is a southpaw originally from Kinokawa, Wakayama. He began boxing at Shinsei Gym, where Hasegawa trained during his active career, and compiled an amateur record of 68-12 while competing for Kishigawa High School, Nihon University, and the JSDF Physical Training School. Since making his professional debut with Teiken Gym in June 2021, he marked 10 consecutive knockout victories, capturing the WBO-AP title during that run.

In February of this year, he suffered his first professional defeat and lost his title via a decision loss to Gabriel Santisima (Philippines). His professional record currently stands at 10-1 (10 KOs).

“Following my recent loss, I took the time to reflect and decided I wanted to return to my roots. I chose to transfer to create an environment where I could train in my hometown,” Murata wrote, signaling his intent to make a fresh start and climb back up the rankings. Notably, Murata becomes the first professional fighter to represent KOBE Hasegawa Gym.
