Prime Video announced on the 12th that it has entered into a long-term contract with Teiken Promotions. Furthermore, it was confirmed that the April 11 event at Ryogoku Kokugikan, headlined by the bout between Tenshin Nasukawa (Teiken) and Juan Francisco Estrada (Mexico), will be exclusively streamed live as “Prime Video Boxing 15.”
The bout between Nasukawa and Estrada is a WBC bantamweight title eliminator. Previously announced undercard bouts include 10-round contests featuring Tomoya Tsuboi (Teiken) vs. Pedro Guevara (Mexico) and Kyosuke Takami (Teiken) vs. Angel Ayala (Mexico).
Katsuma Akitsugu to Make Japanese Debut
In addition, it was announced that 28-year-old southpaw Katsuma Akitsugu, who has been based in the United States, will compete in a 10-round bantamweight bout against Jose Calderon (Mexico). Akitsugu is currently ranked by all four major sanctioning bodies, headlined by a No. 5 ranking with the IBF.
A native of Wakayama City, Akitsugu dropped out of Kokoku High School in Osaka and moved to Los Angeles at age 19 to pursue a professional career, debuting in December 2018. Despite a hiatus of over two years during his development, he has compiled an undefeated record of 14-0 (4 KOs).
Akitsugu has gained momentum with consecutive victories in his last three outings against former and current world-ranked Filipino contenders Aston Palicte, Jonas Sultan, and Vincent Astrolabio. A skillful southpaw, Akitsugu identifies his “mental toughness” as his greatest asset. His opponent, Calderon, previously faced Riku Masuda (Teiken) in November of last year, suffering a technical decision loss.
Additionally, Teiken rookie Keita Kubodera (2-0, 2 KOs) will face Chrisaldi Beltran (Philippines) in a 6-round bout. Advance tickets for the event go on sale today, the 12th, at 6:00 p.m. via Lawson Ticket.
