On March 24, Sunagawa challenged Tsubasa Narai (RK Kamata) for the Japanese title, losing by decision after an exchange of knockdowns. Considering the damage sustained in that fierce battle, he decided to withdraw from the tournament quarterfinals scheduled for June 28. Consequently, Rentaro Kimura (Suruga Danji), who was originally slated to fight Sunagawa, will now face reserve fighter Kirei Yasumura (Izumi-kita).
In addition to the Kimura–Yasumura bout, the other three quarterfinal matches of the Super Featherweight tournament (Keisuke Matsumoto vs. Ryuo, Kai Watanabe vs. Eigo, and Kanta Fukui vs. Riku Kitani) will be held at Phoenix Battle 156 on May 12.
