After completing the weigh-in, Nasukawa expressed relief along with a sense of anticipation, saying, “I feel like it’s finally starting.” He added, “I’ve overcome my internal hurdles and done everything I needed to do, so I want people to see what a man who has steeled himself can do against a strong opponent.” Regarding his impression of Estrada up close, he noted, “He looks strong,” and followed up by saying, “I’m in the mindset of ‘I’m going to do this.'”
In the semi-main Super Flyweight bout, both Tomoya Tsuboi (Teiken) and former champion Pedro Guevara (Mexico) weighed in at 51.9 kg. Following his fight against Carlos Cuadras (Mexico), Tsuboi faces another former world champion; after just three professional bouts, he is already ranked No. 1 by both the WBC and WBO. “I’m going to enjoy it as I always do. I’ll show a style of boxing that is uniquely Tomoya Tsuboi,” he said.
For the second match, a 10-round Bantamweight bout, IBF No. 5-ranked Katsuma Akitsugi (Japan) cleared the scales at 53.3 kg for his clash against Jose Calderon (Mexico). Akitsugi, who is based in the United States, will be fighting in a Japanese ring for the first time in his 15th professional bout. “The adjustment went surprisingly well,” he said, adding, “I want to enjoy myself in front of the Japanese fans tomorrow.”
