World Boxing Association and World Boxing Council light flyweight champion Kenshiro Teraji of B.M.B. Boxing Gym paid a courtesy call on former Health, Labour and Welfare Minister Katsunobu Kato at the Lower House Diet Members’ Office building on Oct. 16 and pledged he is determined to unify the division’s titles.
After being congratulated by Kato for Teraji’s successful defense of the titles by beating Hekkie Budler of South Africa last month, the 31-year-old Teraji said he plans to face World Boxing Organization light flyweight champion Jonathan Gonzalez of Puerto Roco early next year for another title unification bout provided Gonzales beat Gerardo Zapata of Nicaragua on Oct. 27 in his title defense.
Kato, head of the parliamentarians’ group supporting the Japanese pro boxing world, wore a body protector while holding a punching mitt, received Teraji’s light body shot.
According to Teraji, he will return to his hometown of Kyoto to engage himself in roadwork for a week and will take up a full-fledged training at Tokyo’s Misako Boxing Gym, to which his trainer Kenta Kato belongs.
