Former two-division female world champion Tenkai Tsunami of Yamaki Boxing Gym, unleashing a barrage of left-right combinations, stopped Wassana Kamdee of Thailand in the second round in a scheduled eight-round nontitle bout on Dec. 4 in Tokyo.
They fought at a catchweight of 51 kg (112. 4 lbs.). It was the 39-year-old Tsunami’s third straight victory since losing her World Boxing Organization’s world light flyweight title to Seniesa Estrada of the United States in July 2021.
Fighting at Korakuen Hall, Tsunami got off to a good start as she dropped Wassana with a left hook to the body in the first round.
Though the 35-year-old Wassana beat the referee’s count to manage to survive the round, Tsunami swarmed over her opponent in the second round and floored Wassana twice, both with right-hand punches, forcing the referee to stop the fight 1 minute and 10 seconds into the round.
With the victory, Tsunami, who was also a former World Boxing Association super flyweight champion, improved her record to 31 wins, including 19 KOs, against 13 losses and a draw, while Wassana fell to a 9-10 win-loss tally with eight KOs.
