Kickboxer-turned Tenshin Nasukawa of Teiken Boxing Gym aims at his first knockout victory as he had some great moves in his public workout at the gym on Jan. 10 before his third professional bout on Jan. 23 in Osaka.
The 25-year-old Nasukawa, who will face Luis Robles of Mexico, ranked 14th in the bantamweight division both by the World Boxing Association and World Boxing Organization, at EDION Arena Osaka, did four rounds of aggressive sparring with a pair of Mexican partners, Carlos Norberto Lopez and Jesus Ramirez Rubio.
The left-handed Nasukawa actively moved forward and unleashed combination punches, which was different from his hitherto fighting style based on defense.
Nasukawa, currently ranked seventh in the Japanese super bantamweight division, turned pro last April with a decision victory and had another decision win in his second bout last September.
Ever since his second bout, Nasukawa has attempted to build up his offensive power as he said, ‘’I have decided to take the risk of putting pressure on my opponent myself, which I failed to do in my first two bouts.’’
The change of his fighting style was seen in the day’s sparring as he threw four to five combination punches while keeping his weight forward. Nasukawa said, ‘’I was able to throw only three punches at a time before,’’ adding he was able to boost his stamina through his thorough roadwork. ‘’Normally I will spar six to eight rounds at a time now,’’ he said.
‘’I want to get rid of the notion of so-called all talk and no action. I want to earn a KO victory no matter what. Though I did not know how to do it, I think I now know how to attain that by putting everything into proper perspective.’’
The 25-year-old Robles has a record of 15 wins, including five KOs, against two losses and a draw.
The scheduled eight-rounder is part of Prime Video Presents Live Boxing 6.
