World Boxing Organization’s Asia-Pacific and Oriental and Pacific Boxing Federation super welterweight champion Takeshi Inoue of World Sports Boxing Gym fought to a majority draw with Wade Ryan of Australia and retained his titles on March 18 in Tokyo.
It was the 34-year-old Inoue’s third successful defense of the WBO Asia-Pacific title and his first as the OPBF champion. There were no knockdowns in the fight.
After the 12-round fight at Korakuen Hall, two of the three judges scored the fight even while the third judge saw Inoue ahead by two points.
While Inoue attempted to land overhand rights, the left-handed Ryan, also 34, was aiming at counter lefts and right hooks throughout the fight. But both lacked conclusive punches.
Inoue, who unsuccessfully challenged then WBO super welterweight champion Jaime Munguia of Mexico in the United States in 2019, now has a record of 20 wins, including 12 knockouts, against two losses and three draws. For his part, Ryan now has a 22-11-1 win-loss-draw tally with eight KOs.
