Undisputed world super bantamweight champion Naoya ‘’The Monster’’ Inoue of Ohashi Boxing Gym, who will defend his titles against top-ranked World Boxing Council super bantamweight Luis Nery of Mexico on May 6 at Tokyo Dome, went eight rounds of sparring at the Yokohama-based gym on March 25.
According to the gym, the 30-year-old Inoue sparred with the World Boxing Association’s 11th-ranked super bantamweight Kevin Gonzalez of Mexico, who was stopped in the eighth round by Murodjon Akhmadaliev of Uzbekistan last December in a WBA super bantamweight title eliminator last December.
Former WBC youth world featherweight champion Jonathan Lopez of the United States has also been serving as Inoue’s sparing partner since his arrival in Japan on March 17.
The two are expected to stay in Japan until around the middle of April.
The undefeated Inoue has 26 straight wins, including 23 KOs. The left-handed Nery has a 35-1 win-loss tally with 27 KOs.
