Former World Boxing Council flyweight champion Daigo Higa has concluded a management agreement with Tlarock Entertainment Inc., a Tokyo-based company dealing in various commercial management business mainly for athletes, Tlarock said on June 28.
The 24-year-old Higa, who recently left the soon-to-be closed gym held by former world champion Yoko Gushiken, will move up in weight to the bantamweight and will aim at his second world title.
Higa lost the flyweight title in April 2018 for he failed to meet the 112-pound flyweight limit. He had successfully defended the title twice before losing the crown.
Higa, who made a successful comeback in a nontitle bout in February this year, is currently training under the guidance of his mentor-cum-trainer Joji Nogi and is expected to shortly announce a boxing gym from which he will fight.
Higa, who shares the Japanese record of 15-straight knockout wins with two others, aims at returning to the ring within this year.
World Boxing Organization super flyweight titlist Hiroki Ioka, the only Japanese who has conquered world titles in four different weight divisions, also belongs to Tlarock Entertainment, along with known amateur boxing brothers, Hayato and Reito Tsutsumi.
