Veteran Miyao to fight for world female minimumweight title in Vietnam

Jul 14, 2020 16:03 pm

Former World Boxing Association female atomweight champion Ayaka Miyao will face Thi Thu Nhi Nguyen of Vietnam for the vacant World Boxing Organization minimumweight crown on Sept. 27 in Vietnam’s Ho Chi Minh City, according to Watanabe Boxing Gym to which Miyao belongs.

It will be the 36-year-old Miyao’s first crack at the 105-pound (47.6 kgs) title since she drew with compatriot Etsuko Tada for the crown in January this year.

Miyao, who successfully defended the world atomweight title five times between September 2012 and October 2015, has a win-loss-draw record of 23-8-2 with six knockouts.

The 23-year-old Nguyen is undefeated in her four bouts, including a knockout, and captured the WBO Asia Pacific minimumweight crown in February this year.
