Three people belonging to an Osaka boxing gym, including two professional boxers, were found to have shown positive in polymerase chain reaction tests for the novel coronavirus or COVID-19, the Japan Boxing Commission said on July 19.
According to JBC sources, one of the two pro boxers in their 20s is expected to be hospitalized soon with the other waiting for a local public healthcare center’s instruction. The third person, a trainee of the gym, has already been hospitalized.
Since the two pro boxers had been engaged in sparring sessions in another gym in the past week, the JBC fears the number of people contracting the coronavirus may increase and pledged it would get a correct grasp of the situation as early as possible so that similar incidents can be prevented.
