Watanabe Boxing Gym head fined 500,000 yen for violating coronavirus guidelines

Oct 15, 2020 12:37 pm

The East Japan Boxing Association held an online board meeting On Oct. 14 and decided to slap a penalty of 500,000 yen (about 4,730 U.S. dollars) on Watanabe Boxing Gym President Hitoshi Watanabe for having failed to observe the association’s guidelines to prevent the spread of the novel coronavirus.

According to the association, Watanabe was standing to watch east Japan rookies’ tournaments at Tokyo’s Korakuen Hall on Sept. 6, 24 and 25 though such was not permitted under the guidelines. He also sat on a seat prohibited and did not abide by the repeated warning not to do so.

The guidelines have it that all the seats are designated in efforts to maintain social distancing and avoid coming in close contact with a person or persons who might have tested positive for the coronavirus.
