Japan’s Sewon Okazawa hammered out a 5-0 unanimous decision over Krishan Vikas of India in the first round of the men’s welterweight division at the Tokyo Olympics on July 24.
Fighting at the Ryogoku Kokugikan Sumo Sarena behind closed doors, southpaw Okazawa controlled the bout throughout against his left-handed rival, to whom Okazawa lost in an Asian preliminary round last year.
In the female featherweight first-round competition, Japan’s Sena Irie also pounded out a 5-0 decision over Yamileth Solorzano of El Salvador to advance to the next round. It was a Japanese female boxer’s first victory in the Olympic Games.
