JBC, JPBA confirm stricter COVID-19 tests for boxers, chief seconds

Feb 16, 2022 9:49 am

Both Japan Boxing Commission and Japan Pro Boxing Association confirmed in their liaison committee meeting on COVID-19 held online on Feb. 15 that both boxers and their chief seconds who have become positive in prefight antigen tests will be required to go through either the antigen tests or polymerase chain reaction tests before each fight.

So far, the boxers and chief seconds who were once stricken with COVID-19, have been exempted from these tests for six months.

Given the current infection status, the parties concerned decided to conduct these tests across the board.
Further, they also decided that a given event will be cancelled even on the preceding day of the event amid worries over the disrupted medical system and the failure to accept these ‘patients.’’

But at this point in time, there is no worry about such situation, according to sources who took part in the meeting.
