Former International Boxing Federation super bantamweight champion Ryosuke Iwasa of Celes Boxing Sports Gym suffered a lopsided decision loss to former U.S. amateur champion Japhethlee Llamido in a featherweight eight-rounder in South Korea on Apr. 15.
The fight was held as the chief supporting card for the Meiirim Nursultanov-Kazuto Takesako middleweight showdown.
Fighting at Paradise City in Incheon adjacent to Seoul, both southpaws exchanged rapid punches with Lamido getting the better of Iwasa. While there were no knockdowns, Llamido ended the fight far ahead on points.
With the loss, the 33-year-old Iwasa now has a 28-5 win-loss tally with 18 knockouts, whereas the undefeated Llamido, 23, extended his unbeaten record to 11 wins, four by KO.
In another supporting card, the previously undefeated Hironori Mishiro of Yokohama Hikari Boxing Gym suffered a fifth-round technical decision loss to South Korea’s Jung Min Ho in a lightweight eight-rounder.
While both suffered eye cuts in the opening round due to an accidental head butt, it was Mishiro who was more in disarray.
Mishiro, who changed his gyms recently from the previous Watanabe Boxing Gym, could not land decisive blows while Jung piled up points at close quarters.
The fight was stopped 1 minute and 28 seconds into the fifth stanza at the advice of the ringside doctor who examined Mishiro’s injured part for the third time.
At the time of the stoppage, all three judges scored the fight in favor of Jung by 1 to 4 points.
With the loss, the 28-year-old Mishiro sagged to a 12-1-1 win-loss-draw tally with four KOs. For his part, the 29-year-old Jung improved his record to 14 wins, including three KOs, against four losses and two draws.
