Takada stops Hasebe in 6th round, wins vacant Japan minimumweight title

Apr 27, 2023 1:34 am

Top-ranked Yuni Takada of Lions Boxing Gym, unleashing a barrage of left and right combinations in the closing moment, stopped second-ranked Shuri Hasebe of Misako Boxing Gym in the sixth round to capture the vacant Japanese minimumweight title on Apr. 26 in Tokyo.

The technical knockout of the scheduled 10-round fight at Korakuen Hall came 2 minutes and 59 seconds into the round when the 24-year-old Takada connected with a well-timed left hook to the head and swarmed all over Hasebe, 27, prompting the referee to step in to call off the fight.
With the victory, Takada avenged his defeat to Hasebe in April 2016.

Takada improved his record to 11 wins, including eight KOs, against eight losses and three draws. Hasebe fell to a 9-7 win-loss tally with three KOs.

The title was left vacant by Yudai Shigeoka of Watanabe Boxing Gym, who won the World Boxing council interim world minimumweight title earlier this month.

The day’s title match was part of the Lemino BOXING PHOENIX BATTLE 99.
