WBC/WBO super bantamweight champ ‘Monster’ Inoue given championship belts

Aug 31, 2023 14:40 pm

Newly crowned World Boxing Council and World Boxing Organization super bantamweight champion Naoya ‘’the Monster’’ Inoue of Ohashi Boxing Gym was presented with their championship belts on Aug. 30 during the event called ‘’Phoenix Battle 103’’ at Tokyo’s Korakuen Hall.

Inoue, who won these titles with an eighth-round technical knockout over the then champion Stephen Fulton of the United States in July in Tokyo, said from the ring, ‘’I really thank you very much for having rooted for me in the July 25 fight. They turned out to be the world titles in my fourth weight division. I think the addition of the two world titles has enriched my career at a pace faster than I had expected. While we are in the midst of negotiations, I will do my best if I can face the remaining champion in the division (Filipino) Marlon Tapales (World Boxing Association and International Boxing Federation). So, please wait expectantly.’’

His trainer and father Shingo Inoue was given a special belt from the WBC.
