Boxers taking part in Hangzhou Asian Games attend press confab in Tokyo

  A total of five Japanese men and as many women will take part in the 19th Asian Games in China’s Hangzhou, the capital city of Zhejiang Province, starting Sept. 23 as nine of them attended a press conference on Sept. 20 at Tokyo’s Ajinomoto National Training Center.

  Only Mai Kito, the women’s 66-kg representative, was absent for the day’s conference.

Men’s representatives from L: Tsuboi (51 kg), Shudai Harada (57 kg), Yuta Akiyama (63.5 kg), Okazawa (71 kg) and Issei Aramoto (80 kg)

  The games will double as the preliminary round of the Asia Continental Stage of next year’s Paris Olympics.

  Seon Okazawa, the winner of the AIBA Men’s World Boxing Championships at welterweight in Serbia’s capital Belgrade in 2021, said, ‘’I am only thinking about winning the event.’’ Tomoya Tsuboi, also the winner of the championships at bantamweight, said, ‘’If I can do myself justice, surely, results will follow afterwards.’’

  Tsukimi Namiki, the women’s flyweight bronze medalist at the Tokyo Olympics, said, ‘’I want to earn the victory desperately so that I can obtain the right to take part in the Olympics.’’
