Mar 09, 2024 21:40 pm

The World Champions Club said on March 9 it donated a total of 551,739-yen (or about 3,752 U.S. dollars) to the Tokyo office of Ishikawa Prefecture in the wake of the Noto Peninsula earthquake that struck the prefecture’s Noto Peninsula on New Year’s Day.

Current club head Hamada (2nd from L) hands donations to Nakatani along with Nakajima (2nd from R) and Yamanaka

The donations, collected during ‘’Prime Video Presents Live Boxing 7‘’ at Tokyo’s Ryogoku Kokugikan Sumo Arena on Feb. 24, were handed to Yasutaka Nakatani of the office on March 6 by former World Boxing Council super lightweight champion Tsuyoshi Hamada (the current head of the club), former WBC light flyweight kingpin Shigeo Nakajima and former WBC bantamweight champion Shinsuke Yamanaka.

During the fund-raising activity at the arena, in which three world title fights were held, some 20 former world champions took part.

The World Champions Club was launched in 2010 by former WBC lightweight champion Guts Ishimatsu, whose real name is Yuji Suzuki, and did similar fund-raising activities after the Great East Japan Earthquake in 2011 and the Kumamoto Earthquake in 2016.
