Jayson Vayson of the Philippines pounded out a 10-round unanimous decision over 10th-ranked challenger Takeru Inoue of Muto Boxing Gym to retain his World Boxing Organization’s Asia-Pacific light flyweight title on Apr. 21 in Osaka.
It was the 25-year-old Vayson’s first successful defense of the title he captured from Ryuya Yamanaka of Shinsei Boxing Gym last December.
While there were no knockdowns in the fight held at Sumiyoshi Ward Center, it was Vayson who threw more punches to the head and body and ended the fight on top.
With the win, Vayson improved his record to 12 wins, including five knockouts, against a loss and a draw with one no contest, whereas the 25-year-old Inoue, a former policeman at Osaka Prefectural Police, suffered his first loss after winning his first four bouts, two by KO, after turning pro in October 2022. Inoue fought as an amateur boxer during his high-school and university days.
