‘Monster’ Inoue aims to continue boxing until he turns 35

Jan 13, 2021 11:30 am

World Boxing Association ‘’super’’ and International Boxing Federation bantamweight champion Naoya ‘’Monster’’ Inoue said in a television interview aired on Jan. 13 that he plans to continue as an active boxer until he turns 35.

The 27-year-old Inoue said, ‘’I have been fighting for eight years as a pro, and if I fight eight more years, I will become 35-years-old. It’s a nice round number.’’

‘’I hope to unify the bantamweight titles of the world four sanctioning bodies. if I win the remaining two titles, I can achieve that. Then, I want to move up to the super bantamweight. That’s the ideal plan,’’ he continued.

In this connection, Inoue said he badly wants to fight World Boxing Organization bantamweight champion John Riel Casimero of the Philippines.

Inoue was originally scheduled to fight Casimero last spring. But the novel coronavirus pandemic put off the fight a few times, and eventually the planned fight disappeared. But in the meantime, Casimero has made provocative comments about Inoue.

Inoue said, ‘’I really get irritated and wants to silence him by fighting him.’’
