Ex-Japan super lightweight champ Eguchi to open boxing/kickboxing gym in Yokohama

Jul 03, 2021 9:58 am

Former Japanese super lightweight champion Shingo Eguchi, who fought for Ohashi Boxing Gym when he was an active boxer, will open a boxing-cum-kick boxing gym named ‘’Solid Box’’ on Aug. 1 in Konan Ward of Yokohama.

According to Ohashi gym head Hideyuki Ohashi, the soon-to-be opened gym will not join Japan Pro Boxing Associations.

The 44-year-old Eguchi made a professional debut in 1999 and won the Japanese super lightweight title in 2003 as he beat Motoki Sasaki of then Kyoei Boxing Gym, becoming Ohashi gym’s second Japanese champion after former Japanese super flyweight champion Katsushige Kawashima. Eguchi lost the title in his second title defense to Norio Kimura of Yokohama Hikari Boxing Gym. He retired in April 2004.
