Veteran Nonaka decisions Koshikawa, retains WBO Asia-Pacific middleweight crown

Jul 24, 2021 9:51 am

Champion Yuki Nonaka of Atsumi Boxing Gym, using his speedy footwork to his advantage, outpointed third-ranked Koki Koshikawa of Ichiriki Boxing Gym and retained his World Boxing Organization Asia-Pacific middleweight title on July 23 in Osaka.

While the 43-year-old Nonaka fended off Koshikawa’s sporadic punches in the 12-round fight at EDION Arena Osaka’s annex, there were no knockdowns as neither fighter failed to connect with devastating punches.

It was Nonaka’s second successful defense of the title he won in February 2019.

With the victory, Nonaka improved his record to 35 wins, including 10 knockouts, against 10 losses and three draws. Meanwhile the 30-year-old Koshikawa, who suffered a cut above his right eye late in the fight, fell to a 9-3 win-loss record with six KOs.
