Clash of 2 top Japanese lightweight boxers Yoshino, Ito very enticing as undercard of Murata-GGG

Apr 08, 2022 8:32 am

Undefeated Shuichiro Yoshino of Misako Boxing Gym, the holder of the Oriental and Pacific Boxing Federation and World Boxing Organization’s Asia-Pacific lightweight titles, and challenger Masayuki Ito of Yokohama Hikari Boxing Gym, former WBO super featherweight champion, attended a press conference at a Tokyo hotel on Apr. 7 ahead of their title fight on Apr. 9

The fight will be held as the first main undercard of the title unification fight between World Boxing Association ‘’super’’ middleweight champion Ryota Murata of Teiken Boxing Gym and International Boxing Federation middleweight ruler Gennadiy Gennadyevich Golovkin, alias GGG, of Kazakhstan.

The scheduled 12-rounder was initially planned on Dec. 29 last year but was moved to Apr. 9 in accordance with the new date for the Murata-GGG fight at Saitama Super Arena in Saitama Prefecture.

Yoshino, 30, said, ‘’Since my fight (with Ito) was postponed by four months, I was able to think a lot about my boxing. I gained a lot because I was able to engage myself in long sparring sessions.’’
‘’If I win in this fight, my future boxing life is said to become much brighter. That is why I am putting a lot of emphasis on this fight,’’ said Yoshino who aims at fighting abroad in the future.

For his part, the 31-year-old Ito, who moved up in weight, appeared firmly focused on this fight as he said, ‘’I am trying to be in tip-top condition along with a possible strategy for the fight. I am now in good physical condition. Since our fight was postponed once, I am staking my fate on this fight.’’

‘’Mr. Murata is a great Japanese boxer, and Golovkin is a world-renowned boxer. Fighting on the same ring will be profound experience for me. I hope I can pass on to them in a good way,’’ he added.
Yoshino has 14 wins, including 10 KOs, while Ito has a 27-3-1 win-loss-draw tally with 15 KOs.
