Ex-world middleweight ‘super’ champion Murata cagey about his future

Jan 26, 2023 22:20 pm

Former World Boxing Association middleweight ‘’super’’ champion Ryota Murata of Teiken Boxing Gym still pussyfoots around his future after attending an award presentation ceremony on Jan. 25 in Tokyo.

After making the speech at the ceremony, in which the 37-year-old Murata and Teiken Promotions representative Tsuyoshi Hamada, 62, were cited for their contributions to the sports world, Murata told reporters, ‘’Realistically speaking, I cannot think about continuing boxing. True I would be happy if I were required. But I cannot seek a resolution myself.’’

Murata lost to International Boxing Federation middleweight champion Gennadiy Gennadyevich Golovkin of Kazakhstan in their title unification fight at Saitama Super Arena in Saitama Prefecture last April, and has not clarified his attitude about his future.
