Japan heavyweight champ Tajima stops Thai in 1st round, his first KO in 3 fights

Aug 11, 2023 23:16 pm

Japanese heavyweight champion Mitsuro Brandon Tajima of KWORLD3 Boxing Gym, unleashing a barrage of combination blows from the opening bell, demolished Nakhonchai Pantang of Thailand in the first round on Aug. 11 in Osaka.

The technical knockout of the scheduled eight-rounder at EDION Arena Osaka came a minute and 59 seconds into the round when Tajima landed left-and-right punches by putting his overwhelmed opponent against the ropes, prompting the referee to step in to call off the fight.

Earlier in the round, Tajima dropped the left-handed Nakhonchai, 26, with right hooks to the head for a mandatory eight count and added another knockdown shortly after with a left hook to the liver.

Though Nakhonchai struggled to his feet to beat the referee’s count, he was put on the defensive immediately.

After the fight, Tajima said, ‘’I will make it short. I will next fight on Sept. 3 in Okayama Prefecture and on Oct. 7 (in Tokyo). I would appreciate it if you would observe me being updated after each fight.’’

It was Tajima’s first KO victory for the first time in three fights and improved his unbeaten streak to eight, including six KOs. For his part, Nakhonchai fell to a 6-5-1 win-loss-draw tally with five KOs.
