Highly touted Casimero-Oguni bout ends in technical draw due to accidental head-butt

Oct 13, 2023 8:18 am

The highly touted bout between former three-division world champion John Riel Casimero of the Philippines and former International Boxing Federation super bantamweight champion Yukinori Oguni of Kadoebi Boxing Gym ended in a technical draw due to an accidental head-butt suffered by Oguni on Oct. 12 in Tokyo.

The end of the scheduled super bantamweight 10-rounder at Ariake Arena came 27 seconds into the fourth round when Oguni suffered a cut on his forehead due to the head-butt, and the ringside doctor ordered the stoppage of the fight since Oguni’s cut was found to be severe.

It was the first time for Casimero, a former World Boxing Organization bantamweight champion, to fight in Japan, and both exchanged fierce blows until when the head-butt occurred.

The fight was the main even of FEDELTA Presents TREASURE BOXING PROMOTION 4.

With the draw, the 34-year-old Casimero, who also was a former IBF world flyweight and light flyweight champion, now has a record of 33 wins, including 22 knockots, against four losses and a draw. The 35-year-old Oguni has a record of a 21-2-3 win-loss-draw tally with eight KOs.
