Up-and-coming featherweight Kota Kaneko of Teiken Boxing Gym stopped Cai Fan of China in the sixth-round on Oct. 28 at Tokyo’s Korakuen Hall in the main event of Japan-China Peace and Friendship event.
The technical knockout of the scheduled eight-rounder at Korakuen Hall came 1 minute and 6 seconds into the round when Kaneko unleashed a barrage of left-and-right combinations to the head and body, prompting the referee to call off the fight.
Kaneko dropped his southpaw opponent twice in the second round, once with a left hook to the head and then with combination blows.
Though Cai survived the round, the 25-year-old Kaneko gradually sapped Cai’s strength by landing various punches to the head and body. In the sixth stanza, Kaneko landed a devastating right hook to the head, sending his 27-year-old opponent tottering back before the referee’s stoppage.
With the win, the undefeated Kaneko improved his record to four wins, including three KOs. The 27-year-old Cai fell to a 5-5-1 win-loss-draw tally with two KOs.
In the event dubbed ‘’G.O.A.T. MATCH Vol.2,’’ Japan won four of the five fights.
The following are the results of the other fights:
(2) Takuya Watanabe of DANGAN Aoki Boxing Gym pounded out an eight-round unanimous decision over WeiWei Liu of China in a lightweight bout.
(3) Junpei Tsujimoto of Teiken gym hammered out a lopsided decision over Tumaerbieke Nuerbieke of China in a super welterweight eight-rounder.
(4) Shugo Namura of SRS Boxing Gym suffered a TKO loss in the third round to Hu Longyi of China in a flyweight eight-rounder.
