Nasukawa earns TKO as Robles retires at end of 3rd round

Jan 24, 2024 18:16 pm

Kickboxer-turned Tenshin Nasukawa of Teiken Boxing Gym earned a technical knockout victory over 14th-ranked World Boxing Association and World Boxing Organization bantamweight Luis Robles of Mexico at the end of the third round as Robles failed to come out for the fourth round on Jan. 23 in Osaka.

The scheduled eight-rounder at the catchweight of 54.88 kg or 121 pounds was held at the chief supporting card for ‘’Prime Video Presents Live Boxing 6 ‘’ held at EDION Arena Osaka.

The left-handed Nasukawa got off to a good start by frequently landing left hooks to the body, sending his opponent, nurtured by legendary Mexican trainer Ignacio ‘’Nacho’’ Beristain, backpedaling most of the time.

The 25-year-old Robles appeared to have suffered a sever damage in the third round and failed to resume fighting for the fourth round, citing a right ankle injury.

Nasukawa uttered, ‘’Really’’ immediate when Robles retired.

After the fight, Nasukawa, also 25, said, ‘’He got his foot injured? It looks like a kickboxing fight. I think I am in the process of evolving. Since I didn’t have any damage (in the day’s fight), I hope to have the next fight as soon as possible. I think I can fight at bantamweight.’’

Nasukawa has three straight wins, including a KO, since becoming a professional boxer last April. For his part, Robles sagged to a 15-3-1 win-loss-draw tally with five KOs.
