Nakajima decisions Nakagawa, wins vacant OPBF super bantamweight title

Feb 23, 2024 10:15 am

The Oriental and Pacific Boxing Federation’s eighth-ranked super bantamweight Kazuki Nakajima of Ohashi Boxing Gym hammered out a lopsided 12-round decision over sixth-ranked Mugicha Nakagawa of Ichiriki Boxing Gym to win the vacant OPBF title on Feb. 22 in Tokyo.

Nakajima (R) lands effective punches to head and body

While neither boxer failed to land effective blows early in the fight at Korakuen Hall, the left-handed Nakajima put pressure on Nakagawa from around the 10th round by connecting with straight lefts to the head and body and ended the fight on top.

There were no knockdowns in the fight. The title was left vacant by Nakajima’s stablemate Yoshiki Takei late last year.

With the win, the 30-year-old Nakajima improved his record to 15 wins, including 12 knockouts, against two losses and a draw, while the 35-year-old Nakagawa fell to a 28-10-3 win-loss-draw tally with 18 KOs.
