Japan’s heavyweight champ Tajima loses to Romanian Jur in bridgerweight bout

Mar 31, 2024 22:51 pm

Japanese heavyweight champion Mitsuro Brandon Tajima of KWORLD3 Boxing Gym suffered his first loss since making his professional debut in April 2022 as he was decisioned by Alexandru Jur of Romania in a bridgerweight eight rounder in Nagoya on March 31.

The weight limit of the briderweight, sanctioned by the World Boxing Council, is 224 pounds, which is between the cruiserweight and heavyweight divisions.

Fighting at Nagoya Congress Center, the 29-year-old Tajima, ranked 23rd in the briderweight division, got off to a so-so start by moving swiftly.

While Tajima attempted to get inside in the second round, the 38-year-old Jur, ranked 29th in the division, sent Tajima to the canvas by landing a right uppercut. But Tajima got up to beat the referee’s count and resumed fighting.

Jur frequently staggered Tajima in the following rounds by utilizing his longer reach advantage, and Tajima’s face was smeared with blood.

At the end of the eighth round, Tajima’s left eyelid was almost closed shut due to Jur’s constant punches. All three judges had Jur ahead by seven points at the end of the fight held at Nagoya International Conference Hall.

It was one of the undercards of ‘’3150FIGHT vol.8.’’

With the defeat, Tajima now has a record of 10 wins, including eight knockouts, against a loss. For his part, Jur improved his record to 21 wins, eight by KO, against five losses.
