Another 2 boxers positive for COVID-19 in Osaka Pref.

Jul 24, 2020 15:02 pm

Two more amateur boxers in their 20s in a gym in Osaka Prefecture, western Japan, were found to have tested positive for the novel coronavirus or COVID-19, the Japan Boxing Commission said on July 23.

The two, who have tested positive through polymerase chain reaction tests, do not belong to the gym and are believed to have been in close contact with an infected person or persons when they had sparring sessions at another gym in Osaka where nine people have already been infected with the virus, causing a cluster of COVID-19 infections.

One of the two has already been isolated in a hotel as he complains of a throat pain while the other is also hospitalized although he does not exhibit any symptoms typical of COVID-19.

A total number of patients related to COVID-19 at boxing gyms has reached 11.

While the name of the gym where the nine were infected was not disclosed, the number of coronavirus patients has been increasing at boxing gyms in Osaka.
