WBA’s top-ranked bantamweight Ishida stops Philippine Pagaling in nontitle bout

The World Boxing Association’s top-ranked bantamweight Sho Ishida of Ioka Boxing Gym stopped fifth-ranked Philippine super bantamweight James Pagaling in the third round in a bantamweight nontitle fight in Osaka on Dec. 10.

The technical knockout of the scheduled eight-rounder at EDION Arena Osaka’s annex came 1 minute and 51 seconds into the round as the 32-year-old Ishida stopped his 24-year-old opponent by pounding him with a barrage of unanswered blows.

With the win, Ishida improved his record to 34 wins, including 17 KOs, against three losses. Pagaling fell to an 8-2 win-loss record with five KOs.

Kano scores TKO win in 2nd

Meanwhile, World Boxing Organization’s top-ranked flyweight Riku Kano of Taisei Boxing Gym stopped Khomsan Kaewruean of Thailand in the second round in an eight-round bout held as the chief supporting card of the event. The fight took place at the catchweight of 51.5 kg (113.5 lbs).

  The 26-year-old Kano sent his opponent to the canvas with a devastating straight left from his southpaw stance by putting his 18-year-old opponent near the ropes, prompting the referee to call off the fight 1 minute and 25 seconds into the round.

  With the win, Kano upped his record to 22 wins, including 11 KOs, against four losses and two draws. Khomsan fell to a 5-1 win-loss tally with three KOs.
