Former World Boxing Organization super featherweight champion Masayuki Ito will face undefeated Oriental-Pacific Boxing Federation super featherweight kingpin Hironori Mishiro in a lightweight 10-rounder on Nov. 5 at the Sumida City Gymnasium in Tokyo, organizers said on Aug. 31.
Both said they will campaign as lightweight boxers in their world title quest. Ito, 29, has a record of 26 wins, including 14 knockouts, against two losses and a draw, while the 25-year-old Mishiro has nine wins, three by KO, and a draw.
Ito won the vacant WBO crown in July 2018 by decisioning Christopher Diaz of Puerto Rico. After a successful defense of the title in December that year, Ito failed in his second title defense as he lost a unanimous decision to Jamel Herring of the U.S. He returned to the ring in September last year by stopping Ruben Manakane of Indonesia.
As for Mishiro, he captured the OPBF title in his sixth pro bout and has so far successfully defended the title four times.
Ito said, ‘’I wanted a big fight like this to vivify the domestic boxing world tattered by COVID-19. Mr. Mishiro is a good boxer as I have done sparring sessions with him many times. I will do my best because he is one of the strongest boxers around.’’
Mishiro said, ‘’Honestly, Mr. Ito has been my hero ever since I turned pro. But I am determined to beat that hero. I will devote both heart and soul to the Nov. 5
