International Boxing Federation world female atomweight champion Saemi Hanagata of Hanagata Boxing Gym will defend her title against sixth-ranked Eri Matsuda of Team-10-Count Gym on Feb. 26 next year at Tokyo’s Korakuen Hall, the Hanagata gym said on Dec. 28.

It will be the 36-year-old Hanagata’s second defense of the title she won in September 2018 by beating Yuko Kuroki in a close decision. It was Hanagata’s fifth attempt at a world title.

She made a successful defense of the title in September last year by decisioning Nao Ikeyama of future boxing gym. She has a record of 16 wins, including seven knockouts, against seven defeats and four losses.

For her part, Matsuda is undefeated in her four professional bouts, including one KO. Before turning pro, the 26-year-old southpaw had fought 33 amateur bouts, winning 21 of them.

She captured the Oriental and Pacific Boxing Federation atomweight title in her second bout in December 2018 and added the Japanese title in her third match in March last year. She successfully defended the Japanese title in September last year.
