‘Monster’ Inoue’s brother Takuma to face Furuhashi as chief supporting card for Inoue-Donaire showdown

Apr 17, 2022 10:03 am

World Boxing Organization’s Asia-Pacific super bantamweight champion Takuma Inoue of Ohashi Boxing Gym and Japanese super bantamweight kingpin Gakuya Furuhashi of Kawasaki Nitta Boxing Gym will put their titles on the line on June 7 at Saitama Super Arena in Saitama Prefecture, the Ohashi gym said on Apr. 16.

According to the gym, the scheduled 12-rounder will serve as the chief supporting card for the title unification fight between World Boxing Association ‘’super’’ and International Boxing Federation bantamweight champion Naoya ‘’The Monster’’ Inoue and World Boxing Council bantamweight ruler Nonito Donaire of the Philippines.

The 26-year-old Inoue, a younger brother of Naoya Inoue and a former WBC bantamweight interim champion, won the vacant WBO’s Asia-Pacific title by decisioning Shingo Wake of FLARE Yamagami Boxing Sports Gym last November.

Takuma Inoue has a record of 15 wins, including three knockouts, against a loss, while the 34-yrar-old Furuhashi has a 28-8-2 win-loss-draw tally with 16 KOs. Furuhashi has so far successfully defended the Japanese title twice.

Among other undercards, Andy Hiraoka of the Ohashi gym, the WBO’s Asia-Pacific super lightweight champion and the Japanese ruler of the same weight division, will put his Japanese title on the line against eighth-ranked Japanese super lightweight Shun Akaiwa of Manabe Boxing Gym.
