Ex-Japan super welterweight champ Matsunaga to fight with Navarrete in Mexico on Apr. 30

Third-ranked World Boxing Organization’s Asia-Pacific female bantamweight Ringo Aka of Shinsei Boxing Gym stopped second-ranked Yuko Henzan of Hiranaka Boxing School Gym in the second round and captured the vacant title at Edion Arena Osaka’s annex on Apr. 16.
The technical knockout of the scheduled eight-rounder came 1 minute and 23 seconds into the round. After scoring a knockdown late in the opening round, Aka, 27, swarmed all over Henzan, 35, in the second round and landed a hard right to the head, prompting the referee to call off the fight.
It was Aka’s third straight win, including two KOs. She was a former mixed martial arts fighter. Henzan fell to an 8-12-4 win-loss-draw tally with two KOs.
In the Japanese female bantamweight title match, champion Kanako Taniyama of Watanabe Boxing Gym hammered out a lopsided six-round decision over top-ranked Miki Mitsuda of Himeji Kinoshita Boxing Gym and retained the title for the first time.
With the victory, Taniyama, 35, upped her record to five wins, including one KO, against a loss and a draw. With the defeat, Mitsuda, 30, impaired to a 5-8 win-loss record with four KOs.
In the Japanese female atomweight championship fight, top-ranked Kaoru Iga of the Shinsei gym scored two knockdowns over third-ranked Natsuki Tarui of Yamamoto Boxing gym and won a six-round majority decision to capture the vacant title.
Iga, 29, now has six wins, including two KOs against two losses and a draw. While the 30-year-old Tarui rallied strongly each time she was floored, she failed to put her punches together. Tarui fell to a 4-9-2 win-loss draw tally.
