Ex-WBO female champ Okuda to face legendary ex-WBC ruler Ramadan on Aug. 20 in Melbourne

Aug 10, 2022 0:22 am

Former World Boxing Organization world female super flyweight champion Tomoko Okuda of Sakai Haruki Boxing Gym will face legendary former World Boxing Council world female bantamweight champion Susie Ramadan of Australia on Aug. 20 in Melbourne in an eight-round nontitle bout, gym officials said on Aug. 9.

According to the officials, the eight-round bout will be held at the weight of 53 kgs (about 116,8 pounds). The 39-year-old Okuda and Hiroshi Haruki, the head of the gym, and others will leave for Melbourne, the southeastern part of the country, on Aug. 16.

Okuda first captured the WBO title in December 2020 from Miyo Yoshida of Misako Boxing Gym only to lose the title to Yoshida in their rematch in June last year.

Okuda, known widely as a high-school teacher-cum-boxer, moved to Sakai Haruki gym this year from Mitsuki Boxing Gym, both in Osaka Prefecture.

Okuda said, ‘’Ever since I changed my gyms, I have been training with an overseas fight in mind. I am appreciative of the opportunity because my opponent (Ramadan) is regarded as a legendary boxer in Australia. I will have to fight with her by keeping my distance since she is good at moving in and out.’’

Okuda has a record of seven wins, including one knockout, against three losses and two draws. The 43-year-old Ramadan has 28 wins, including 12 KOs, against three losses.
