Japan’s super featherweight Narai becomes 1st contract boxer of ‘3150FIGHT ’

Oct 07, 2022 10:03 am

Sixth-ranked Japanese super featherweight Tsubasa Narai of RK Kamata Boxing Family Gym has become the first contact boxer of the ‘’3150FIGHT’’ boxing series promoted by Koki Kameda, the head of Kameda Promotion Co.

Speaking before a group of reporters, Kameda, RK Kamata gym head Kazuhiro Ryuko and Narai jointly announced the matter at the gym in Tokyo on Oct. 6.

Kameda said, ‘’Narai is still young at 22. I am counting on his future abilities. To this end, he will need at least five to six more bouts not a couple of fights.’’

Narai challenged Japanese super featherweight champion Kosuke Saka of Nakazato Yoshitatsu Boxing Gym for the latter’s title last month in an exciting slugfest. Though he was stopped by Saka in the sixth round, he floored the champion twice before the stoppage. The fight is regarded as one of the best bouts this year. Kameda himself said after the fight, ‘’I was impressed (by Narai’s fighting spirit) very much.’’ Kameda then made the proposal both to Narai and Ryuko.

The Kameda side wants to have Narai take part in the 3150 series continuously. While no details were told, a certain amount of contract money was paid. As for the period of the contract and the number of fights involved, they are expected to be worked out later.

Narai, who has a record of eight wins, including seven knockouts, against two defeats, said, ‘’Though I lost in my last fight, I was given a big opportunity, which was surprising. I will do my best to become a world champion.’’

Narai’s next fight may be held on next Jan. 6 at EDION Arena Osaka at the earliest in the next 3150 fight, they said.
