Miyoshi decisions Wakasa, retains Japan female featherweight crown for 2nd time

Oct 19, 2022 9:56 am

Kimika Miyoshi of Kawasaki Nitta Boxing Gym pounded out a close but unanimous six-round decision over second-ranked challenger Yoshie Wakasa of Hanagata Boxing Gym to retain her Japanese female featherweight title on Oct. 18 at Tokyo’s Korakuen Hall.

It was the 38-year-old Miyoshi’s second successful defense of the title she captured from Wakasa in February this year.

While Wakasa put a pressure on Miyoshi from the opening bell, the 38-year-old Miyoshi, utilizing her body movement to her advantage, landed more effective blows throughout the fight. It was their third encounter with Miyoshi winning twice. There were no knockdowns in the fight.

After the fight, Miyoshi said, ‘’I know I still leave much to be desired. Though I will turn 39-years-old this year, I will do my best to lead the gym. I am determined to capture a world title without fail.’’

With the victory, Miyoshi improved her record to 17 wins, including six knockouts, against 13 defeats and two draws. For her part, the 34-year-old Wakasa fell to a 7-4 win-loss tally with two KOs.
