Former World Boxing Association middleweight ‘’super’’ champion Ryota Murata of Teiken Boxing Gym hinted at his retirement from boxing after attending an annual awards ceremony for 2022 on Feb. 22 at a hotel in Tokyo.
Speaking before a group of reporters after the ceremony at Tokyo Dome Hotel, the 37-year-old Murata said, ‘’I think that fight (with Gennadiy Golovkin of Kazakhstan last April) will be my last fight although I cannot announce it officially.’’
The fight between Murata and Golovkin at Saitama Super Arena won the Best Bout Award in last year’s world championships.
Murata said he has not engaged himself in training ever since losing to Golovkin.
