Interim champ Shigeoka to face IBF minimumweight champ Valladares on Aug. 11 in Osaka

Jul 01, 2023 16:39 pm

The International Boxing Federation’s interim world minimumweight champion Ginjiro Shigeoka of Watanabe Boxing Gym will face IBF champion Daniel Valladares of Mexico on Aug. 11 at EDION Arena Osaka as part of ‘’3150FIGHT Vol.6’’ promoted by Kameda promotion Co. it was announced on June 30 at the gym in Tokyo.

The 23-year-old Shigeoka badly wanted to have a rematch with the 29-year-old Valladares as their Jan. 6 fight at the same venue was declared no decision (no contest) as champion Valladares could not continue the fight due to an accidental head butt in the third round.

Since Valladares suddenly stopped fighting late in the round after the head butt with Shigeoka, in which Valladares’ head appeared to have hit Shigeoka’s chin when the Mexican attempted to get inside, the referee declared no decision despite the fact that he was given a few minutes of recess in the ring.

Shigeoka, who knocked out the IBF’s third-ranked Rene Mark Cuarto of the Philippines to win the IBF interim world minimumweight title last April, said at the gym, ‘’There should be only one world champion.’’

Meanwhile the IBF’s fifth-ranked bantamweight Ryosuke Nishida of Muto Boxing Gym will face fifth-ranked Christian Medina Jimenez of Mexico in a 12-round title eliminator for the IBF bantamweight title in the same event.
