International Boxing Federation super flyweight champion Fernando Martinez of Argentina showed a fine form in his public training at Shisei Boxing Gym in Tokyo before his title unification fight with World Boxing Association super flyweight champion Kazuto Ioka of the gym on July 7 at Tokyo’s Ryogoku Kokugikan Sumo Arena.

  After showing rope skipping, shadowboxing, mitt and heavy bag hitting in addition to punching ball hitting, the 32-year-old Martinez, who had a 20-day training camp in Las Vegas, Nevada for the upcoming fight, said, ‘’Thanks to my hard training, my condition is perfect and my weight is almost close to the (super flyweight) limit.’’

  With his hair dyed to look like famous soccer team Club Atlético Boca Juniors, an Argentine professional sports club based in La Boca, and popular Japanese manga Dragon Ball, Martinez displayed a popular pose of Son Goku in Dragon Ball.

  Commenting on the fight with Ioka, Martinez said, ‘’It will be like a war,’’ adding, ‘’I want to buy a house for my mother, and the upcoming fight will be the first step to realize my dream.’’

  Concerning the fact that Juan Francisco Estrada of Mexico lost his World Boxing council super flyweight title on June 30 (Japan time) to Jesse ‘’Bam’’ Rodriguez of the United States in Phoenix, Arizona, and Rodriguez is said to be eager to fight with the winner of the Ioka-Martinez fight, Martinez said, ‘’While I also want to fight with ‘Bum,’ I prefer to fight with (World Boxing Organization super flyweight champion Kosei) Tanaka (of Soul Box Hatanaka Boxing Gym).’’

  ‘’I want to fight with a boxer with favorable financial conditions for me,’’ commented Martinez, ‘‘adding, ‘’I like Japan and want to fight in Japan.’’

  The 35-year-old Ioka has a record of 31 wins, including 16 KOs, against two losses and a draw. For his part, the 32-year-old Martinez has 16 straight wins, nine by KO.
