Kameda negotiating with WBC minimumweight champ Panya on possible fight with Yudai Shigeoka in Osaka

Jul 05, 2023 12:09 pm

Koki Kameda, the head of Kameda Promotion Co., held a press conference on July 4 in Tokyo he is in the midst of negotiations with World Boxing Council minimumweight champion Panya Pradabsri of Thailand on the latter’s possible fight with WBC world minimumweight interim champion Yudai Shigeoka of Watanabe Boxing gym on Aug. 11 in Osaka.

Panya suddenly cancelled his visit to Japan to defend his title against Shigeoka in April citing he caught the flu shortly before. Shigeoka then faced Wilfredo Mendez of Puerto Rico and won the WBC minimumweight interim title.

Panya stopped Norihito Tanaka of Misako Boxing gym in Thailand in June to successfully defend his title for the fourth time.

Though Kameda hopes to have the Panya-Shigeoka fight as part of its ‘’3150FIGHT Vol.6’’ boxing series at EDION Arena Osaka as Shigeoka’s younger brother and International Boxing Federation’s interim world minimumweight champion Ginjiro Shigeoka will face IBF champion Daniel Valladares of Mexico in the event, Panya is of the view that he wants to have a world title fight in Thailand in late August.

Kameda said, ‘’We seem to be being swayed by the champion (Panya).’’ Therefore, it still remains uncertain about Yudai Shigeoka’s next fight.
