WBC/WBA light flyweight champ Teraji eyes another title unification fight, overseas fights

Nov 02, 2022 17:19 pm

World Boxing Council and World Boxing Association light flyweight champion Kenshiro Teraji of B.M.B. Boxing Gym told reporters at Misako Boxing Gym in Tokyo on Nov. 2 that he wants to have another title unification fight along with overseas fights following his decisive win the preceding night to capture the WBA title.

The 30-year-old Teraji stopped Hiroto Kyoguchi of Watanabe Boxing Gym in the seventh round in an exciting fight at Saitama Super Arena in Saitama Prefecture.

Teraji told the reporters he stayed up after the fight by responding to some 300 LINE messages that commemorated his devastating technical knockout victory over Kyoguchi in the seventh round.
‘’I always feel a great sense of freedom after a fight. But it was the greatest last night. I think I did a great job, ‘’ Teraji said satisfactorily.

‘’From around the second round, I was able to land my jabs well, which was good. But I regret I overdid it. I reflect on that aspect very much,’’ Teraji continued looking back at the fight.

After Teraji dropped Kyoguchi with a one-two punch in the fifth round, the latter struggled up and rallied tremendously by landing various punches to Teraji, which is regarded by many boxing fans and experts as the best round of the year so far.

Looking ahead, Teraji said, ‘’While I will feel more pressure, a strong champion has to get through that.’’
Facing World Boxing Organization light flyweight champion Jonathan Gonzalez of Puerto Rico in another title unification fight is one option as the Puerto Rican decisioned Shokichi Iwata of Teiken Boxing Gym to retain his title as the chief supporting card on the same night.
As for fighting abroad, Teraji said, ‘’I will go anywhere if possible.’’
