Ex–3-division world champ Linares to face highly touted Catterall on Oct. 21 in Liverpool

Aug 06, 2023 16:15 pm

Former three-time world champion Jorge Linares of Teiken Boxing Gym will face Britain’s Jack Catterall in a 12-round nontitle bout on Oct. 21 at M&S Bank Arena, formerly known as Echo Arena, in Liverpool, Britain’s Matchroom Boxing promotion company has said.

The 30-year-old Catterall, who lost to fellow countryman and then undisputed world super lightweight champion Josh Taylor in February 2022 in a controversial decision, intends to build up momentum by beating Linares.

The 37-year-old Linares, who hails from Venezuela and has been fighting out of Teiken gym since 2002, has lost his last three straight bouts.

Linares, nicknamed El Nino de Oro (the Golden Boy), was a former world featherweight, super featherweight and lightweight champion. He has a record of 47 wins, including 29 knockouts, against eight losses. Catterall has a 27-1 win-loss record with 13 KOs.
