Juiki Tatsuyoshi of Osaka Teiken Boxing Gym, a son of former legendary World Boxing Council bantamweight champion Joichiro Tatsuyoshi, made a brilliant comeback in two years and nine months on Aug. 6 in Osaka as he won a technical knockout in a featherweight eight rounder.
Fighting at the city’s L-Theatre, the 27-year-old Tatsuyoshi stopped Taketo Yamahara, 23, of Senboku Boxing Gym in 1 minute and 35 seconds in the fifth round as the referee stepped in to stop the one-sided contest. Tatsuyoshi also scored a knockdown in the first round with a left hook to the head.
After the fight, Tatsuyoshi, said, ‘’I have been through a lot. I want to express my appreciation to those people who have helped me a lot in various ways. I wasn’t too much nervous. I mean, I was able to do my kind of boxing.’’
Tatsuyoshi, who was once ranked seventh in the Japanese super bantamweight division, was laid off for a long time due partly to injuries he suffered during training and the rampant COVID-19 coronavirus catastrophe.
His father Joichiro Tatsuyoshi, who was at the ringside, commented, ‘’He did fairly well despite his (long) absence.
With the victory, the undefeated Tatsuyoshi improved his record to 14 wins, including 10 KOs, and a draw. Yamahara, a former top amateur boxer, fell to a 2-2 win-loss tally with two KOs.
