Kameda decisioned by S. African Dlamini in fight to decide IBF’s 2nd-ranked featherweight

Oct 08, 2023 10:15 am

The International Boxing Federation’s fifth-ranked featherweight Tomoki Kameda of TMK GYM suffered a split decision loss to eighth-ranked featherweight Lerato Dlamini of South Africa to decide the division’s second-ranked boxer on Oct. 7 in Tokyo.

After the 12-round fight at Ota City General Gymnasium, two of the three judges had it 116-112 in favor of Dlamini while the remaining judge scored the fight 115-113 for Kameda.

The fight was held as the main event of ‘’3150FIGHT vol.7’’ promoted by his eldest brother Koki Kameda, head of Kameda Promotion Co.

After getting off to a quiet start, neither boxer could land decisive punches as both settled for sticking out left jabs while moving side to side earlier in the fight.

Though Kameda landed a left hook to the body and head in the 10th round, which caused Dlamini to suffer a cut from the edge of his right eyelid, and increased his offense in the remaining two rounds, his too defensive boxing earlier in the fight appeared to have cost him the victory.

With the win, the 29-year-old Dlamini improved his record to 20 wins, including 11 KOs, against two losses, while the 32-year-old Kameda, nicknamed El Mexicanito for his strong ties with Mexico, fell to a 40-4 win-loss record with 22 KOs.
